We’d like to say a huge well done to our Year 1’s for settling in so well to school this half term and for being such enthusiastic learners. This week we gave out our first Headteacher’s Awards of the term and would like to share their successes with you all.
Well done to Lottie for working so hard on her Numbots homework this week and settling in so well to Year 1.
Well done to Ella – Rose for settling into school so beautifully this half term and being a resilient learner.
Well done to Amelie for being such a brilliant role model and always showing enthusiasm and determination in every task she undertakes.
Hello soon to be Year 1, my name is Miss Blowers and I will be one of your new teachers in September and I am very excited to meet you all. I am currently a teacher in Year 3 and will be moving to Year 1 in September, so Year 1 will be new to me too but I am sure if we work together we will have lots of fun and learn lots of new things.
When you start in Year 1, school might be a little bit different to how you remember it, however we will still be able to do lots of exciting activities, build lots of friendships and learn many new skills.
So you know a little bit more about me before you start, I’d like to tell you a few things about myself.
I have lived in Coventry most of my life, only leaving to study at Cardiff University. I have 1 child who has just turned 1, her name is Eliza and she is very mischievous. I enjoy listening to music and am currently trying to learn to play piano, not very successfully though. I enjoy going on long walks with my family and visiting my mum and dad who moved to Wales a few years ago.
I came to Coundon Primary School when I was your age and some of the teaching assistants and teachers that work here now were my teachers too.
My favourite children’s author is Roald Dahl and I enjoy reading all of his stories, but my daughter’s favourite story book is ‘The Gruffalo’ by Julia Donaldson. Julia Donaldson is your author study for this year. Do you like Julia Donaldson’s books? Or do you have a different favourite author?
Sometimes I can find my work a little bit tricky or I might be a little bit tired or nervous, and that is okay, but I learnt a super skill that I hope we can all work on together throughout the year which helps me a lot. This special skill is called ‘Resilience’. Now I know that is a really long word that you might be unsure of, all it means is ‘I will keep trying and trying until I achieve my goal.’ Hopefully we will all be resilient, confident and happy learners together this year.
This year, your teaching assistant will be Mrs Wilson and she has sent me a special message to share with you:
‘Hi, I’m Mrs Wilson.I’m really looking forward to getting to know you all and finding out your favourite things to do. I love to read lots of books but I especially like Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy and Matilda.’
We can’t wait to see you in September and learn all about you too. We hope you have a fun, restful and exciting summer holiday and will have lots of stories to share when you join us in Year 1.
Take care and stay safe, Miss Blowers and Mrs Wilson

We have loved hearing from lots of the children on Microsoft Teams over the past few weeks and we appreciate that many of the children in our year group will not have spoken to their friends since the school closure in March, so we would like to let them know that we are opening up our general channel on Teams to allow the children to catch up with their friends from 11:40 – 12:00 Monday to Friday.
We do ask that the children only use the general channel during this time and respect that this is a provision that might have to be removed if it is used outside of these times. We will try our best to monitor the children’s conversations to ensure that this is a positive space for them to share their experiences and talk to their peers however we do ask that they follow the online safety rules we have previously spoken about and always speak to each other in a kind and respectful way.
We would also like to remind the children that they can email their work, any queries etc to our class email addresses and we will respond as soon as possible.
We would like to say a huge well done to those children still accessing Fiction Express at home. Keep up the great work! 🙂
If you haven’t had a look yet, why not give it a try?
There are a range of books belonging to various genres, quizzes to test your understanding and activities to complete about the book. There are even live books where you can can vote for what you would like to happen in the next chapter! If you need your password, email your teachers and they can provide this for you 🙂

As you have all been working so hard on your learning, we would like you to have a break from your learning over the half term holiday and spend some time with your families. Why don’t you go on a bug hunt? Or have a picnic in the garden? You might wish to learn a new song with your family and record it to send to family members you haven’t been able to see recently. You could teach mummy and daddy a dance or perhaps play hide and seek with your brothers and sisters. Hopefully the sun will stay out and you will be able to enjoy playing in your garden or go on a walk and see how many seeds you can find. Well done for being superstars and continuing to work so hard, we are very proud of you all!
Your new learning packs will be uploaded onto the blog ready for the week beginning the 1st June.
