Flame of Friendship Finale
On Monday 8th July, a group of carefully chosen, keen dancers from years 3 and 5 were chosen to take part in the closing ceremony for the Flame of Friendship. The finale took place at the University of Warwick, where the Royal Opera House led a dance with the children from Coundon and 40 other schools from Coventry.
After a couple of practices of the dance, the Flame of Friendship torch arrived at the University and we completed the dance for a final time. There was lots of music, smiles and energy for the final dance. A procession was then led by a samba band from the sports ground to the sports hub – it was great fun!
At the hub, there was a short ceremony, where we heard a variety of short talks from a few professors of the University and the Mayor of Coventry. We also watched a video of the torch being designed and made, followed by a photo montage of the torch relay. To close, we performed the Lady Godiva song.
KS2 Christmas Carol Concert
It was a wonderful experience for pupils, parents and carers from year three to year six to hold Coundon’s Christmas Carol Concert at Coventry Cathedral. The choir were a credit to the school singing beautifully at the front, with a beautiful duet from Ruby and Eva – all brought together with pupil’s readings and a tableau of the first Christmas.

Coventry Children’s Mile 2023
On Sunday 18th June, 16 Coventry schools (including Coundon) took part in the Children’s Mile for the first time since 2019! It was lovely to get back into this community event.
Not only were funds raised for Team Coventry, but funds have also been raised by the event for local charity, Three Spires Family Support Trust. Alongside fundraising for important causes, the event was designed to encourage children to stay active.
Fourteen of our children took part in this event (from years 2 to 6) alongside Mr Scott and Mrs Gray. The lovely Miss Ferris also gave up her morning to join us and show her support! The children were great, they were full of enthusiasm and all ran the mile between 6 and 12 minutes, with one of our youngest runners coming 6th overall, out of around 500 runners, well done Lewis Scott!
Let’s hope they we can encourage more children to be involved next year.
