Week Beginning 24th January

Dreams and Goals

This week we will be focusing on one of our PSHE topics all about ‘Dreams and Goals’. We will be thinking about things that we find hard to do and will be talking about not giving up. We will be making a wish for the rest of the year and looking back at it later this year to see if we achieved it.

Read Write Inc. Phonics - Ruth Miskin Phonics Training
The children will be continuing with their phonics groups where they will be recapping the set 1 sounds, reading them in words and trying to write words containing the sounds. Please continue to hear your child read every night (the phonic activities, -the children’s library book is something for you to enjoy together and doesn’t need to be written about in the diary). Please return your child’s diary and any reading books on a Wednesday so we can get them sorted for new materials on Friday.
Maths - Shapes Display Cut Outs
In Maths this week we will be introduced to 6, 7 and 8. We will be identifying the numbers, making the amounts and finding different ways to make up each amount. The children are getting very good at being able to say what makes a certain amount e.g. 3+5=8 see if your child can show you ways to make amounts up to 8.

We are having to talk to the children about inappropriate and rough play on the outside area at the moment Our primary concern is the safety and wellbeing of all the children in our care. Could we please ask you to remind your child about appropriate play in Reception and that they should always use kind hands and follow the Reception rules. We have been very lucky to have such a lovely outside area but some of the play at the moment is causing resources to break or to not be used in the correct way. We want the children to enjoy their time in Reception exploring and discovering so hope that you support us with this.

This week we have started to do our daily mile each day. This is a 10 minute session where the children run or walk around the Year 1 playground. This is intended to improve the children’s fitness levels and to give them the opportunity to blow away some cobwebs. We hope you may see an improvement in your child’s fitness levels and would love if you could support this further by walking to school or parking further away and walking. As we are not taking par t in the Walk to school initiative we will be using our daily mile as our effort and will get a reward for the children for taking par t each half term.
