Hello soon to be Year 1, my name is Miss Blowers and I will be one of your new teachers in September and I am very excited to meet you all. I am currently a teacher in Year 3 and will be moving to Year 1 in September, so Year 1 will be new to me too but I am sure if we work together we will have lots of fun and learn lots of new things.
When you start in Year 1, school might be a little bit different to how you remember it, however we will still be able to do lots of exciting activities, build lots of friendships and learn many new skills.
So you know a little bit more about me before you start, I’d like to tell you a few things about myself.
I have lived in Coventry most of my life, only leaving to study at Cardiff University. I have 1 child who has just turned 1, her name is Eliza and she is very mischievous. I enjoy listening to music and am currently trying to learn to play piano, not very successfully though. I enjoy going on long walks with my family and visiting my mum and dad who moved to Wales a few years ago.
I came to Coundon Primary School when I was your age and some of the teaching assistants and teachers that work here now were my teachers too.
My favourite children’s author is Roald Dahl and I enjoy reading all of his stories, but my daughter’s favourite story book is ‘The Gruffalo’ by Julia Donaldson. Julia Donaldson is your author study for this year. Do you like Julia Donaldson’s books? Or do you have a different favourite author?
Sometimes I can find my work a little bit tricky or I might be a little bit tired or nervous, and that is okay, but I learnt a super skill that I hope we can all work on together throughout the year which helps me a lot. This special skill is called ‘Resilience’. Now I know that is a really long word that you might be unsure of, all it means is ‘I will keep trying and trying until I achieve my goal.’ Hopefully we will all be resilient, confident and happy learners together this year.
This year, your teaching assistant will be Mrs Wilson and she has sent me a special message to share with you:
‘Hi, I’m Mrs Wilson.I’m really looking forward to getting to know you all and finding out your favourite things to do. I love to read lots of books but I especially like Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy and Matilda.’
We can’t wait to see you in September and learn all about you too. We hope you have a fun, restful and exciting summer holiday and will have lots of stories to share when you join us in Year 1.
Take care and stay safe,
Miss Blowers and Mrs Wilson
