Young carers are people aged between 5 and 18 years old who have a responsibility for looking after or helping someone else to look after a person who has a disability, a long term illness, mental health illness, Autism/ADHD or someone addicted to drugs or alcohol. That person could be a parent, sibling, grandparent or even a close friend or neighbour.

At Coundon Primary School, we are committed to supporting our students who are young carers in partnership with Carers Trust Heart of England Young Carers. Our young carers can access drop in sessions in school where they can discuss their caring role and receive advice. We hold frequent young carers afternoons where they are able to meet other young carers while taking part in fun activities and we can signpost young carers and their families to external support services.

Coundon Primary School were runners up in the Caring School Award  category at the Carers Trust Heart of England Carers Award Ceremony on 12th July 2019.  Mrs Harrison and Mrs Goode attended the ceremony to pick up the award where the school was praised for the support if offers  young carers in school and  its work in identifying hidden young carers.

If you would like to register your child as a young carer, please contact Miss Vicki French.
